Walkers shouldn’t miss the 2km Deep Stream Track – a narrow trail following a flooded canyon to a picnic spot that feels like something out of The Wind in the Willows. The second-largest of the trio of lakes along the Waitaki River, Lake Aviemore offers willow-lined, clear-watered loveliness on a still grander scale.
